Service
Synthetic rug cleaning — modern fibres, modern process.
Nylon, polypropylene, polyester, and viscose rugs. We use methods matched to the fibre, not a one-size-fits-all wash that risks heat damage or backing failure.
What this service includes
Cleaning for synthetic-fibre rugs of every modern construction. Different fibres need different handling — we don’t treat polyester like polypropylene like viscose.
- Fibre identification (polypropylene burns clean, nylon smells like celery, polyester smells like sweet plastic)
- Backing assessment — old latex can crack; we adjust process if needed
- Pre-spot of high-traffic and stained areas
- Warm-water wash (synthetics tolerate higher temps than wool)
- Higher-pH shampoo where the fibre allows — more effective on synthetic grime
- Multiple rinses with attention to soap residue (synthetics show it more than wool)
- Flat-dry with airflow assist (synthetics dry faster than naturals)
- Final fluff and pile-direction reset
Our process
How the work actually happens
- 1
1. Fibre identification
We need to know the fibre before choosing process. Polypropylene (a.k.a. olefin) tolerates almost any cleaning method but melts at lower temperatures. Nylon is the most resilient. Polyester is forgiving but holds onto oily stains. Viscose (often labelled "art silk") is the most fragile synthetic — and we recommend it be cleaned by hand only.

2. Pre-spot
Synthetic rugs accumulate visible high-traffic patterns (kitchen runners, hallway entries). We pre-spot these areas with a higher-concentration shampoo so the main wash doesn’t need to be aggressive overall.

3. Warm-water wash
Synthetics tolerate water up to about 50°C without dimensional change. We use warmer water than wool, with a higher-pH shampoo where appropriate. This is more effective at cutting synthetic-binding grime than the cool-water-only protocol we use for naturals.

4. Thorough rinse
Synthetics show shampoo residue more obviously than wool does — residue causes rapid re-soiling and visible streaking. We rinse until water runs clear and finish with a final pH-neutral flush.

5. Backing check
Many synthetic rugs have a latex or rubber backing that can degrade with age. After the wash, we inspect for any backing separation or cracking. If we find issues, we’ll let you know — the backing isn’t fixable but the rug is still usable with a rug pad underneath.

6. Forced-air dry
Synthetics dry 30–50% faster than wool. We use moderate airflow to bring drying time down to 12–24 hours.
How we price this
We don’t publish per-square-foot rates because they oversimplify. Price depends on fibre, size, condition, and whether any repair is involved. After we hear from you, you get a written estimate within one business day. The estimate stands unless we find something at pickup that changes the scope — and if we do, we tell you before doing any extra work.
